Graduating seniors in Utah Valley University’s Department of Art & Visual Communications are putting the finishing touches on pieces for their gallery shows this spring as part of their requirements for a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.
"We've seen tremendous growth with this year's graduating class. The level of technical maturity is impressive, as are the concepts communicated," said Dr. Steven Bule, chair of the Department of Art & Visual Communications. "Each year, the BFA shows get better and better; this year's shows are setting a new standard for future students."
As part of their capstone projects students are required to find a venue to display their work, create and distribute marketing materials, and curate and hang the show. Many students consider their senior show their introduction into the professional art community.
"My BFA show is a combination of many parts of my education at UVU. I started with screen-printing and that lead into graphic design," said Brad Trinnaman, whose senior project looks at the Book of Revelations through the lens of graphic design. "Thanks to the open-mindedness of my director, Jim Godfrey, I was able to pursue art history and illustration in my show."
"The AVC faculty have commented how proud they are of these students and their progress as artists and individuals," Bule said. "Viewers will be very surprised with the variety of powerful artistic expression in these shows."
