UVU Business Students Return from New York City

Six business students and two professionals from Utah Valley University just returned from a four-day trip to New York City, intended to introduce students aspiring to the ranks of Wall Street to important contacts and companies in the city.

The trip included three days of visits and networking with companies such as Goldman Sachs, Barclays, Morgan Stanley, Ernst & Young, FOX News, MediaVest, Federal Reserve Bank of New York and Hunter Public Relations, among others. The students attended dinner receptions and were educated with industry speakers each night of the trip.

"The purpose of the trip was for students who have an interest in working and living in New York City to engage in networking with professionals from key companies and to get a feel for New York City and what it offers," said Michael Snapp, director of Career Services at UVU.

Snapp and Mikki O’Connor, assistant dean for the UVU Woodbury School of Business, obtained a CEL grant to cover the majority of the trip’s cost for the students. This is UVU’s third year taking students to New York, and Snapp said he plans to continue organizing this event for UVU each year.

"It’s a great opportunity for UVU students, and our students shined," O’Connor said. "Other universities had students attend, but our students were the most prepared and most professional."

The students who participated were chosen through a competitive application and interview process to represent UVU. They joined approximately 40 other students from BYU, BYU-Idaho, the University of Utah and others for the program, officially titled "Pathways to New York."
