UVU to Hold Ribbon-Cutting for Renovated Losee Center for Student Success

Utah Valley University will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Sept. 23 to celebrate the opening of the renovated Losee Center for Student Success. The program on the fourth floor of the Losee Center will be followed by a reception with light refreshments and tours of the building.

The Losee Center for Student Success centralizes more than 20 departments that play a role in student affairs in one spot on campus to better serve students looking to use the University’s wide variety of services.

"We are trying to pull it all together," said UVU Vice President for Student Affairs Cory Duckworth, "to help students learn how to navigate the higher education landscape."

Duckworth explained that every step of the process is represented in the new center, from prospective student services (recruiting) through advising services to help students while they’re in college to career advising and placement to help them get internships and jobs.

The center is also home to the UVU honors program and leadership and service learning centers, which, according to Duckworth, "allow students to get involved beyond just going to class."

The consolidated services will also help the University achieve what Duckworth said is a goal of "personalized, seamless and intentional" advising. With so many related resources in one place, students can utilize a variety of advising services under one roof and advisors can more easily refer and introduce students to other services. Besides that, the closer quarters for so many interrelated services hold potential to breed more collaborative programs and partnerships.

"The proximity allows those groups to build tighter relationships," Duckworth said.

The Losee Center for Student Success, up until the opening of UVU’s cutting-edge library last year, was the Losee Library. With the new library opening up some valuable mid-campus real estate, administrators saw an opportunity to consolidate student resources in a location that would make them more accessible to the people they’re meant to serve.
