UVU Library to Issue Library Cards to Area Educators

This Thursday at the Utah Valley University K-16 Alliance meeting with UVU Interim President Elizabeth Hitch, UVU Library director Mike Freeman will be presenting library cards to each of the area superintendents and announcing that the Library will now provide free library cards for all area educators.

The meeting will be held at 7:30 a.m. in the Trustees Room (SC 213c) and the area schools’ superintendents will be the first to receive cards as a symbolic gesture, said Dr. Mark Bezzant, UVU assistant vice president for university partnerships. This is part of the University’s K-16 Alliance, which was started under former UVU President William Sederburg.

"It’s an alliance between our institution and the seven school districts in our service region for the purpose of creating a seamless system between public education and higher education," Bezzant said. "This is part of our commitment to our friends in the schools - the teachers and other educators - that we truly want to engage them."

Bezzant said the University wants area educators from all levels to feel welcome and to have a place on campus. It is one of many ways, he said, that the University can reach out and thank them. "We’re in this together," he added, citing that some 68 percent of UVU’s students come from within the University’s regional service area. Now, educators from kindergarten on up will have access to the UVU Library’s 200,000 square feet of resources to help them with their educational pursuits and their work with children.

"UVU is leading the way in the state of Utah in its commitment to collaborating and working with our schools to help students succeed," Bezzant said.

The UVU Library will also be opening its doors to the community. Non-educator community members can obtain a UVU Library card for $20.
