Second Annual Senior Capstone Dance Concert to be Held April 2-4

Fourteen senior dance students from UVU’s School of the Arts will present their choreography in ballet, ballroom or modern dance in UVU’s second annual senior capstone dance concert entitled "Venture" April 2-4 at 7:30 p.m. in PE 152.

"It’s a good way for us to show what we have learned and accumulated over the past four years," said Laura Ward, who is majoring in dance with an emphasis in modern dance. "It’s the last cap on our degrees and it’s exciting."

The capstone class is an opportunity for the graduating seniors to demonstrate their mastery of many skills necessary to function as a dance artist in the world today. In addition to the choreography, the students are responsible for all aspects of the production, including auditioning fellow students for each piece and handling all of the lighting and technical requirements for the show.

"This basically is to get us ready for experiences like this when we get out with our own careers," Ward said.

The explosive growth in the Department of Dance since the acquisition of the four-year degree program has necessitated two separate shows in order to accommodate the budding choreographers. Each senior will present their work in two concerts over the three nights.

Tickets are on sale now for $3 per person per evening when pre-purchased or $4 per person per evening when purchased at the door. Seating is limited so pre-purchase is encouraged.
