Today and tomorrow in the Sorensen Student Center, UVUSA will be hosting a two-day symposium titled "A New U." Four speakers, including Jeanette Hales Beckham, chair of the UVU Board of Trustees, and Stephen Covey, author of "The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People," will be speaking.
Topics of the symposium are designed to benefit students looking to differentiate themselves from their peers, and to help prepare those that are getting ready to enter the work force. Jeanette Hales Beckham will be speaking on how to differentiate yourself while still in college, Carole Haney of Utah Community Credit Union will be speaking on identity theft, Nora Denzel of Intuit will cover the "top ten ways to shoot yourself in the workplace," and Stephen Covey will review his famous "habits" and address how students can fulfill their capacity both at school and throughout the rest of their lives.
"The idea was designed to focus on student success and betterment," said UVUSA vice president David Smith. "We chose the theme "A New U" because we should always be reinventing ourselves at all stages of life."
Smith added that UVUSA hopes to provide students with additional tools they can use to navigate their way through their college and post-college experience. The schedule of speakers is as follows:
