Father of 'Reaganomics' to Address UVU

UVUSA will host Arthur Laffer, former chief economic adviser to Ronald Reagan and father of the supply side economics sensation known as "Reagonomics," for a discussion on the global economy Wednesday, April 15 at noon in the UVU Activities Center (located within the PE Concourse).

UVUSA vice president David Smith said UVUSA wants students to gain high-caliber insight on the current economic situation so they can be more informed about its implications on their generation’s future. Particularly in context with the record amounts of national debt that the younger generations will be inheriting, UVUSA believes Laffer’s federal-level insight will prove valuable for attendees.

"Right now, this is significant due to the unprecedented government spending taking place in the form of stimulus and our budget deficit," Smith said. "The principle of taxation is becoming a contentious issue across party lines."

The "Reaganomics" principle states, among other things, that if there is a reduction of taxes then there is a subsequent increase in federal revenue.

This UVUSA event is free and open to all faculty, staff, students and to the public.
