UVU to Host America's Freedom Festival Baby Contest

For the fifth year in a row, Utah Valley University will host the annual America’s Freedom Festival Baby Contest from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Saturday, June 6 at the Sorensen Student Center.

Last year the contest drew 425 contestants ranging from newborn to 30 months old, and organizers are expecting upwards of 500 contestants for this year’s event.

“Part of Utah Valley University’s mission is to provide cultural experiences that enrich the community and offer significant and varied opportunities for continuous learning,” said Nancy Cannon, a counselor with UVU’s TRIO Student Support Services and the baby contest committee chair.

In addition to the contest there will be 36 vendors present ranging from Tiny Touches hand and foot imprints to community resource organizations available to parents. There will also be a community resource area and a playroom for children.
Cherished Moments Photography and Pro Digital Photos are also teaming up this year to offer a portrait sitting at the baby contest so parents can capture the day’s memories on film.

“The baby contest provides service-engaged opportunities for students and staff,” Cannon said. “The baby contest committee is built around key staff members here at UVU and students are involved in committee leadership opportunities and assisting with executing with the event.”

First place winners will receive a medal, a winner T-shirt, gifts from Mary Kay Cosmetics, books, $25 gift certificate from Tiny Touches, and other prizes. Winners will also have the opportunity to participate in the Freedom Festival’s Grand Parade on Saturday, July 4. Second and third place winners will participate in the Children’s Parade on Saturday, June 27.

Day-of-event registration is $15 at UVU Campus Connection.

More information and registration for the event are available at www.freedomfestival.org/public/event_details/1.
