UVU Softball Signs Two

OREM, Utah -- Utah Valley University head softball coach Todd Fairbourne announced Monday the signing of two recruits that will join his roster for the 2010 season.

Korryn Coates is a Grantsville, Utah native that plays primarily at third base, and Heather Bacon is a pitcher from Glendale, Calif. Fairbourne said he expects both to contribute immediately in the team’s first season in the Pacific Coast Softball Conference.

“Bacon has great movement and velocity change in her pitches,” Fairbourne said. “I expect her to come in and throw immediately. Coates is a very competitive, self-driven player. I expect her to increase the power in our lineup.”

Bacon currently plays for the SoCal Diamonds, a highly recognized summer softball team in southern California, and Coates plays for TC Thunder out of Tooele, Utah. Fairbourne said he was impressed with the success both summer programs have experienced.

Fairbourne also said he plans on signing more recruits in the upcoming weeks and months.

The 2009 Utah Valley softball season will begin February 6 against Southern Utah at the Red Devil Classic in St. George, Utah.
