The Utah Democracy Project at Utah Valley University is hosting U.S. Senator Bob Bennett on Oct. 22, 4 p.m. to 4:50 p.m. in LA 101. Sen. Bennett will be speaking on "Democracy, Elections and Finance Scandals". His speech is free and open to the public.
As a senior member of the Senate Banking Committee and a member of the Joint Economic Committee, Bennett is at the center of national economic policy discussions. Bennett also works for the Subcommittee on Agriculture where he balances fiscal discipline in government while representing the needs of federal funding in Utah.
"The students have a great deal to learn from the vast experience of the Senator," said Elaine Englehardt, UVU distinguished professor of ethics. "First, the Senator is standing at the center of the economic policy decisions that are going on in the current financial crisis. He understands the irregularities and complexities and can share these with the students."
While currently serving his third term as a U.S. Senator, Bennett retains his seat on the Republican leadership team, advising leaders on legislative strategy and policy priorities. Bennett has won numerous awards for his contributions in the U.S. Senate and was named in Congressional Quarterly Magazine as an "emerging leader in a post-Sept. 11 Senate".
