Wolverine Athletics to Induct Two to Hall of Fame

OREM, Utah - The Utah Valley University Athletics Department will induct two new honorees into its Hall of Fame Saturday, December 13.

Former Utah Valley president J. Marvin Higbee and former women’s cross country and track athlete Marie Hodson Glahn will be honored at a reception dinner before the men’s basketball game against Utah State.

“We are where we are today because of Marv Higbee,” UVU Director of Athletics Mike Jacobsen said. “His vision for athletics was our beginning. Marie Hodson Glahn is one of our outstanding student-athletes that had great success while here and has gone on to be successful in all aspects of her life. Both are so very deserving of this honor.”

Higbee was the school’s president from 1982-1988 and led the college through the transition from Utah Technical College at Provo to Utah Valley Community College in 1987. He was also instrumental in expanding the school’s focus from strictly the trades into the liberal arts and technical fields.

Glahn was an Academic All-American in 1999 and 2000 as a cross country athlete for the Wolverines. She was the team’s MVP both of those seasons, and was named Utah Valley’s Female Athlete of the Year for the 1999-2000 season. She was also an NJCAA All-American in both cross country and 10,000-m races.

“Our Hall of Fame has become an icon on our campus,” Jacobsen said. “It is a great way to recognize those who have helped us along the way as they contributed greatly to our athletic program.”
