The first event of “Start Something Beautiful” will gather women of success at a brunch to celebrate women’s contributions to UVU. Keynote speaker, Natalie Gochnour, chief operating officer of the Salt Lake City Chamber of Commerce will speak at the event Sept. 25 at 11:30 a.m. in the Lakeview Room at the new Library.
“Start Something Beautiful” is a new organization at UVU where women have the opportunity to get together to enhance the UVU community. Women contribute to UVU by initiating “something beautiful” at the school such as sharing knowledge, or donating time and money.
"UVU is different and better because of women contributions. It's not simply because they are women, it is because they possess and project feminine values, and they come from goodness,” said Ali Johnson, development officer of UVU’s institutional development. “This is really a way for women of success to share in one way or another. It engages women to share their time, talent, treasures, friendship and tell their stories of success.”
The purpose of this first event is to inspire women and share ideas on how to contribute. Also, UVU students will be showcased at the event with the brunch provided by culinary art students and entertainment by music students. Leadership students will be hosting and participating in the activities along with the guests.
This first event is by invitation only, while future events are planned to be open to all. Johnson hopes this organization, in partnership with UVU, will lead other Universities to provide involvement opportunities for women as well. “This organization might be the first of its kind,” said Johnson. “We are anxious to see how it turns out.”
