UVU to Host Salt Lake Chamber CEO

UVU’s weekly Executive Lecture Series, hosted by the Woodbury School of Business, will bring Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce CEO Lane Beattie to speak Sept. 18 at 12 p.m. in UVU’s Ragan Theater.

The lecture series was created by Reed and Christine Halladay in 2003 as an effort to “bridge the gap between the world of business and management education.”

“These weekly presentations from flourishing business leaders give UVU students and the public insight into what makes a business successful,” said Randy Beckham, assistant dean for advancement in the Woodbury School of Business. “Not only are these presentations insightful, it's the personal time we have to spend with these top business leaders that allows students to network and gain personal guidance."

Beattie, who has previously visited the University under similar circumstances, brings a wide variety of expertise and experience to UVU business students and others who attend.

“As Chamber President Lane has helped lead the Utah economy to record-breaking levels of job growth, construction investment and tourism activity,” said Erin Madrigal, Chamber of Commerce executive assistant. “His passion for solving problems has been demonstrated in his history of public service, business accomplishments and family success.”

Besides being the Chamber’s CEO, Beattie currently works as a real estate broker, developer and father of three. He also served in the Utah State Senate for 11 years, the last six of these as Senate President.

"Lane has the experience and reputation to play a big role in our community and state,” said A. Scott Anderson, Chamber Board of Governors co-chair. “He has seen where Salt Lake has been and has the vision to take it into the future."

This lecture is one of 16 scheduled between August and December. The designated location, UVU’s Ragan Theater, is located on the second floor of the Sorensen Students Center. All lectures are free and open to the public.
