The Wolverines will look to improve their 4-1 home record this season.
OREM, Utah - Fresh off a 20-point win at Sacramento State Tuesday, the 5-3 Utah Valley University men's basketball team is preparing to face 5-1 Utah State of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Saturday at 7 p.m. in the McKay Center where the Wolverines are 4-1 this season.
Senior guard Ryan Toolson continues to lead UVU as one of the nation's top scorers averaging 25 points per game, good enough for fourth in the country. He is also 15th in the nation in free-throws made having sunk 50-of-54 for a .926 percentage on the year. The Wolverines as a team currently rank second in the country with a .849 free-throw percentage (129-of-152).
The Aggies come to Orem after losing to Brigham Young University 63-68 at the Energy Solutions Arena last week in their first loss of the year. Utah State has three players averaging double-digit scoring with Gary Wilkinson, Tai Wesley, and Tyler Newbold averaging 17.3, 12.5, and 11.3 points per game, respectively.
"Utah State is off to a great start," UVU head coach Dick Hunsaker said. "Their team has gelled early in the season, and they are playing with a lot of confidence."
Fans are encouraged to participate in a "Green Out" and wear green attire to the game. There will be a pre-game tailgate party Friday at the Macey's grocery store in Pleasant Grove from 3-6 p.m., and the first 100 students to arrive will receive a free UVU beanie.
