Dr. Pauline Snoeijs, a professor of pelagic system ecology at Stockholm University in Sweden, will be speaking at Utah Valley University Oct. 9 from noon to 1 p.m. in the Library auditorium. As part of the College of Science & Health Lecture Series, Dr. Snoeijs will be presenting her research and photography of stamens and pistols of flowers.
Snoeijs is the author and photographer of the book "The Bridal Chambers of Linnaues" where she combines her two passions of botany and photography. The book pays tribute to the Swedish scientist Carolus Linnaues of whom Snoeijs is a direct successor.
Linnaues was famous for organizing the plant kingdom on the basis of the sex organs of flowers. Snoeijs continues the tradition of studying the sex organs of flowers. Photo exhibits based on her book have been shown in Sweden, Finland, the Netherlands and Poland. Snoeijs’ next photo book will feature photography from her 2007 venture in the Galapagos Islands.
Snoeijs is from Veghel, Netherlands where her interest led her to pursue biology studies and a doctorate from Uppsala University. Snoeijs stayed a Uppsala University to serve as a professor of plant ecology until 2007. She currently is involved in a research project that deals with the pelagic system of the brackish Baltic Sea that integrates ecology, eco-physiology and biochemistry.
