Utah Valley State College is teaming up with other local businesses and volunteers Sept. 6 for the annual United Way Day of Caring to help improve the community through service.
After a 7:30 a.m. breakfast at Brigham Young University’s LaVell Edwards Stadium, groups of volunteers will provide service at various non profit organizations throughout Utah County.
“It’s just one more way for us to be involved in the community,” said Alexis Palmer, director of the volunteer and service learning center. “We’ll be working side by side with other companies and organizations.”
UVSC’s Day of Caring project will take place at the House of Hope in Provo, a substance abuse residential treatment center for women and their children. The UVSC volunteers will be cleaning, replacing tiles, painting, yard work and more.
“Every year we take on a specific project and we try to bring as many volunteers as we can,” said Palmer.
All volunteers will receive a t-shirt and breakfast. Volunteers are asked to register with UVSC by calling the Volunteer & Service-Learning Center at (801) 863-8786 or by e-mailing volunteer@uvsc.edu.
