UVSC Wasatch Student Awarded SUP Scholarship

The Mountain Valley Chapter of the Sons of Utah Pioneers (SUP) awarded Kirt Forakis, a business management major at the UVSC Wasatch Campus, a $500 scholarship for exemplifying pioneer qualities and character.

“We endeavor to reward those who show pioneer spirit in modern times and the ability to deal with and overcome hardships,” said Dick Bailey, past president of The Mountain Valley Chapter.

Forakis, from Heber City, Utah, kept his GPA above 3.0 throughout high school. He also held part-time jobs and played hockey and basketball. He was a State Champion in Skills USA for physics his senior year. He served a two-year LDS mission and currently coaches basketball, works full time and attends classes at Wasatch Campus. He also managed to get married in the middle of it all.

“UVSC has helped out with my career and my life,” Forakis said. “I’m learning a lot at work and I’m learning a ton at school. Knowledge is a great thing.”

The $500 scholarship is to be used at Wasatch Campus for books, tuition or other student needs.
