Far West Bank recently donated $5,000 to Utah Valley State College to be added to the Far West Bank Endowed Scholarship Fund which was established in 1990.
Don Norton, regional director of Far West Bank, visited UVSC to personally deliver the check to Val Hale, vice president for institutional advancement and marketing at UVSC, and Nancy Smith, UVSC’s director of stewardship. Far West Bank, which merged with American West Bank in April 2007, awards its scholarship to a student majoring in the Woodbury School of Business at UVSC.
“Far West Bank is committed to giving back to the community,” Norton said. “By investing in the education of UVSC students, we feel we can make a direct impact on the future success of the students and families in Utah Valley.”
Private scholarships like Far West Bank’s help alleviate the rising costs of education. “For the past 17 years, Far West Bank has helped UVSC business students receive an education through their scholarship,” Nancy Smith said. “Most of our students have to work to support themselves and scholarships help them focus on their studies.”
“Don Norton and Far West Bank have been very generous to UVSC over the years,” added Val Hale. “Many of our students have been greatly blessed by the financial assistance the scholarship provides. It is these types of partnerships that will make UVSC become a great institution for Utah Valley."
New and continuing UVSC students can apply for the Far West Bank Scholarship, and all other private scholarships, by visiting http://uvsc.edu/privatescholarships. Applications are due February 1 for incoming freshman and March 1 for continuing students.
