UVSC Students Return from New York City

Two Utah Valley State College students, along with dozens of representatives from other Utah colleges, participated in “Pathways to New York City,” a program designed to help students learn about career opportunities in the Big Apple.

“A group of business executives in New York who attended Utah schools wanted to open up opportunities for the top students in Utah, so they started the program,” said Michael Snapp, director of career services.

Marcus Lowe, from Basin City, Wash. majoring in accounting and Caleb Love, from Salem, Utah majoring in business, spent three days in New York visiting investment, finance, accounting and public relations companies, speaking with high-level management and getting an overall feel for the city.

“It completely changed my line of thinking,” Love said. “I realized I can go anywhere with what I want to accomplish. It opened up my mind to new possibilities for internships and my future career.”

“Some students go there and determine it may not be somewhere they want to live permanently, but they want the experience,” Snapp said “They get to see what the city has to offer, everything from the business side to every day life. Plus, it's an incredible networking opportunity.”

This was the first year UVSC participated in the program. UVSC will continue to participate in the program and involve more students in coming years.
