Pianist Jon Schmidt Performs at UVSC

Utah Valley State College Envision Winter Guard Club presents “An Evening with Jon Schmidt” Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. in Centre Stage of the UVSC Sorensen Student Center. The money raised from the concert will assist Envision in their traveling expenses to compete around the country and to attend the Winter Guard International World Championships in Dayton, Ohio in April.

“We’re very excited Jon Schmidt agreed to do a benefit concert to help give Envision team members experience in raising money,” said Nancy Cannon, advisor and instructor for the Envision Winter Guard Club. “Envision gives opportunities to team members to learn to be a director of their own winter guard program. Organizing a fund-raiser is a part of the effort of being a director.”

Jon Schmidt is an accomplished pianist with more than three million downloaded songs, seven highly popular albums, seven volumes of original piano scores and a unique style. For the performance, Schmidt and his piano will be in the center of the room, with audience members surrounding him.

“It’s a very intimate setting with Jon,” Cannon said. “And he’s really excited about it because he’ll be able to interact more with the audience.”

Tickets are $12 for general admission and $10 for UVSC faculty, staff and students. Tickets can be purchased at the Campus Connection or by calling (801) 863-8797.
