UVSC Hosts Women's Technology Conference

Utah Valley State College’s Women in Technology Student Organization, along with 1M Flash Technologies, will host the fifth annual Women’s Conference Nov. 28 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Sorensen Student Center.

The conference, “Worlds of Possibilities in Technology,” will highlight different careers in nontraditional technology fields where women make up 25 percent or less of the industry. Both male and female high school seniors and college students are welcome to register.

“This conference provides an opportunity to network with men and women who are professionals and have been doing what they’re doing for a long time,” said Karen Pool, director of the Women in Technology Student Organization. “It’s exciting because every one of them has such a great story to tell, they have a lot of good advice and they will help people see more options available to them in the professional world.”

The keynote speaker will be Chris Redgrave, vice president and general manager of KSL 1160, FM 100 and Arrow 103.5. Other speakers include Susan Horstman, CEO and co-founder of Cornerstone Aviation; Kristen Nilssen, co-president of Gold Medallion Homes; Lauri McPhillen, career counselor with UVSC Career Services; and Lynn Johnson, director of the Salt Lake Brief Therapy Center.

Registration and a continental breakfast will begin at 8 a.m. A networking luncheon is included in the registration fee and will provide students with the opportunity to talk with women from various technology industries. General registration is $59 and student registration is $15.

Online registration and more information can be found at www.uvsc.edu/conted/c&w or by calling (801) 863-8894.
