UVSC is hosting the annual Ethics Awareness Week September 17-21. The events kick off with speakers discussing a variety of topics ranging from prison to stem cell research.
One of the scheduled speakers is Salt Lake County Mayor, Peter Corroon. Corroon has been the mayor of Salt Lake since 2004. In addition to being mayor of Salt Lake County, Corroon also serves as a board member for the National Association of Counties, The United Way, Envision Utah, Utah Technology Council, Economic Development Corporation of Utah and Salt Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, which recently awarded him "Public Official of the Year."
Ethics Awareness Week is designed to draw attention to different ethical subjects and situations to educate students and the community. Discussions throughout the week explore the moral dimensions of numerous disciplines and topics through a series of panel discussions as well as the Annual Conference by the Faculty.
The Excellence in Ethics Award will be presented September 19 at 7 p.m. at Center Stage in the Student Center. This year, the award will be given to David Dominguez. Following the award, Professor Dominguez will speak on "Higher Education and the Ethics of Community Justice."
Professor Dominguez teaches Labor Law, Individual Employment Rights, Criminal Law, Community Lawyering and Advanced Community Lawyering at the BYU J. Ruben Clark School of Law.
“The Ethics Center Board selected David Dominguez for this award because of his sustained commitment to providing liaisons between law schools, lawyers and the community. We are pleased to give this award to someone who has worked so hard to promote fairness and morality in this community, “said Elaine Englehardt, UVSC distinguished professor of ethics.
“With all the different subjects that will be spotlighted throughout the week, the activities will appeal to a variety of different people,” said David R. Keller, ethics center director for the center study of ethics.
