UVSC Presents Lessons in Light Conference

On Thursday, October 18, UVSC will present a conference "Separated from the Light," a training conference for every Mental Health Student and Professional working with adults that suffer from the affects of childhood abuse or domestic violence. The main focus of the conference is on surviving trauma or abuse and relief techniques for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

The seminar will include four lectures, two breaks and a lunch. The event begins at 9 a.m. and will conclude at 4:30 p.m. The event will be held in room 206 in the Student Center.

The speaker for the event is William Tollefson. Tollefson received a doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 1984. He is a well-known expert in the treatment of psychological trauma and abuse. He has dedicated his efforts, heart and soul to helping trauma survivors. He is the president of Inner Values Incorporated and the developer, founder and director of The Women’s Institute for Incorporation Therapy.

"A great reason for UVSC to spread awareness out with this conference is to recognize this subject and bring greater recognition and attention to the issues of PTSD and to help trauma survivors and UVSC’s Digital Media Program," said Shelly Taylor.

The seminar is being video recorded and produced into a training series by a group of UVSC senior students. Upon completion, "Lessons in Light" will distribute the training series to numerous nonprofit organizations that offer therapy to victims of childhood trauma.

The National Board for Certified Counselors has approved this seminar. Participates must be awarded six NBCC Continuing Education hours for a fee on the day of the seminar.

The fee for the event is $120 for professional and $35 for students. Registration can be done by calling (801) 863-8894 or online at www.cw.uvsc.edu.
