Utah Regional Ballet Presents La Coquette

The Utah Regional Ballet, the professional ballet company in residence at Utah Valley State College, today announced that tickets for their upcoming performance of La Coquette are now available. This production is made possible by an arts grant from the Orem City CARE program. La Coquette is a light hearted fun ballet for the entire family. It will be presented November 17 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 pm in the Ragan Theater on the UVSC Orem campus. The ballet is under the direction of Jacqueline Colledge, a world renowned choreographer and ballet instructor.

The ballet takes place in a French countryside cottage, the home of a mother and her four daughters in the late 1800s. The three oldest daughters are single and lonely and urge their mother to seek suitors for them. La Coquette, the youngest, wants a boyfriend too, but her mother feels she is too young. But when the suitors picked by the mother do not take interest in the chosen daughters, La Coquette intervenes.

La Coquette will be performed by Utah Regional Ballet Principals Katherine Rane or Joni Tuttle and Christopher Young. The entertaining sisters will be performed by Linsay Duerfeldt, Rachelle Jardine, Rachel Meyer, Elizabeth Miller and Lauran Hyde. Many young dancers have been selected from throughout the community for the children’s roles.

“This ballet appeals to all ages. Whether you are a ballet connoisseur or this is your first ballet performance, you will enjoy it,” said Jackie Colledge, artistic director and choreographer. “It is a truly meant for the whole family, and it is also one of my favorites.”

Individual tickets are $10 and are available by calling UVSC Campus Connection, (801) 863-8797 or at the door the afternoon and evening of the performances. The Orem City CARE grant, which is aimed at providing opportunities for families to enjoy the arts, makes it possible to purchase a family pass. These discounted family passes are $25 for a family of four and can be purchased in advance by calling the Jacqueline Colledge School of Ballet at (801) 796-7323.
