The Utah Valley State College Ballroom Dance Company placed second at the United States Formation Team Championships Aug. 31 in Irvine, Calif. as part of the four-day Embassy Ball DanceSport Championships.
Hundreds gathered in the standing-room-only ballroom for the final round of competition as UVSC performed the Black Pearl Medley. The performance was that medley’s last, as a new piece will be unveiled at the Winter Concert Nov. 29 to Dec. 3.
“I felt as a team, it was one of the most intense performances we have ever given,” said Scott Asbell, director of the ballroom dance program. “It was an appropriate retirement to a wonderful medley.”
More than 25 countries were represented at the Embassy Ball, considered one of the most prominent ballroom competitions in the United States.
