UVSC to Host Wilson W. Sorensen Society Dinner
The Wilson W. Sorensen Society will provide dinner and entertainment to recognize and show appreciation to members of the society November 1 at 6 p.m. in the Sorensen Student Center, room 206a. After dinner, members are invited to attend UVSC’s musical performance of “Nunsense.”
The Wilson W. Sorensen Society is an honorary organization of friends of Utah Valley State who support the mission of the college though charitable life income plans, bequests and insurance gifts. With more than 150 active members, The Sorensen Society gives community members and UVSC alumni different opportunities to help contribute to UVSC.
The name of the society was instituted as a tribute to one of UVSC’s founding fathers, Wilson W. Sorensen, who served as UVSC’s president for 37 years. As president, Sorensen led the institution through several name changes, purchased land to establish the Orem campus, oversaw building construction and saw enrollment rise to nearly 5,600 students. He managed the establishment of more than 45 instructional programs, including the establishment of the College's associate degree in general education, and witnessed accreditation by the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges.
For more information on membership with the Wilson W. Sorensen Society, contact Maurine Johnson (801) 863-8125.
