UVSC Honors Students to Visit Cedar City

About 30 students in UVSC’s new Honors Colloquium course will take a trip to Cedar City this weekend to attend the Utah Shakespearean Festival and visit Zion’s National Park. The students’ transportation, meals, hotel accommodations and festival tickets are all paid for by the honors program.

“The objective of honors colloquium is to provide culturally and intellectually enriching activities for honors students,” said Joy Ross, director of the honors program. “We also want to give them a sense of community by doing enjoyable things and taking advantage of the Provo and Salt Lake City area around them.”

A bus will transport the students to the festival on Friday, where they will see “The Merchant of Venice.” Saturday morning, students will have the opportunity to hike in Zion’s National Park or to visit art galleries in Cedar City. The bus will return to UVSC late Saturday afternoon.

The trip to Cedar City is the first of the semester, and at least one activity per month is planned for the rest of the semester. Honors Colloquium is a one-credit, pass/fail course that is taken in an honors student’s first year at UVSC. Students must be admitted to the honors program in order to attend the class.
