UVSC Faculty Member Receives Ragan Theater Showcase Award
The UVSC Sorensen Student Center and Ragan Theater will honor Scott R. Asbell, ballroom dance director at UVSC, with the 2007 Ragan Theater Showcase Merit Award December 1 at the Winter Ballroom Concert at 7:30 p.m. in the Ragan Theater.
Under the direction of Asbell, the UVSC Ballroom dance Company has received many awards and accolades. The UVSC Ballroom Dance team has traveled nationally and internationally to compete and perform for many groups and audiences. The company has had four championship wins at the prestigious Open British Championships held in Blackpool, England, and placed Second twelve times at the United States National Championships.
“This award is an opportunity for UVSC to acknowledge and highlight the talents and accomplishments of college, community and high school achievements in the arts,” said Joel Herd assistant director, Sorensen Student Center. “Scott has been a huge contributor to the development and accomplishments of UVSC’s exceptional ballroom teams.
Asbell studied ballroom dance at BYU and performed with the award winning BYU Ballroom Touring Team for more than three years, along with a special tour with the BYU Young Ambassadors to the Middle East.
