UVSC to Hold International Exchange Lecture from Czech Republic
The UVSC Technology Enhanced Teaching Center (TETC) will present Dr. Libor Stepanek, from Political Science Professor Masaryk University in the Czech Republic. Stepanek will be speaking live via video IP technology November 30 at 10 a.m. in the Faculty Seminar Room LC 243. Following Stenaneks lecture audience members will be able to ask questions using video conferencing technology.
The topic of Stepanek’s lecture is “The EU Anti-Terrorist Security System: A European Perspective.” Stepanek will illustrate the defining qualities of EU anti-terrorist security systems within the context of the multi-level (macro/meso/micro) governance approach are presented from a perspective that takes into account questions of European experience with terrorism, the development of a common anti-terrorist system, its operational effectiveness and acceptability.
“These international lectures allow us to obtain diverse perspectives from people all over the world.” said Carlos Alarco, technology trainer at the TETC. “This technology opens doors for future collaboration with universities and individuals to connect and learn from each other even though they are on the other side of the world. Students, faculty and community members are all welcome to take part in this unique lecture series.”
Illustrations of European anti-terrorist short and long-term strategies with their consequences will be discussed showing the necessity of close coordination among diverse individuals when fundamental ideas of democracy based on respect for human rights and rule of law are attacked.
