Sen. Robert Bennett, Rep. Chris Cannon and Christian Burridge to Speak at UVSC
Members of Utah County and students at Utah Valley State College will have a hard time forgetting to vote this November as UVSC hosts “Democracy Days” Nov. 1-3. Congressional candidate Christian Burridge, Rep. Chris Cannon and Sen. Robert Bennett will address the issues of ethics, democracy and politics.
Christian Burridge will speak at UVSC Nov. 1 at 4 p.m. in room 104 of the Liberal Arts Building. "Ethics, Democracy and the right to vote and debate" will be the subject of his address. He is running for the 3rd congressional seat against current Rep. Chris Cannon. Burridge believes that student aid is important and if elected will keep interest on student loans at four percent or less and increase Pell Grant funding. He also believes strongly in ethics reform and is in favor of increasing minimum wage.
Cannon will address the UVSC community Nov. 2 at 10 a.m. in room 025 of the Liberal Arts Building. “Politics, Democracy and Ethics” will be the topic of his speech. Cannon has been a member of Congress since 1996 and has served as chairman of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Commercial and Administrative Law. He has also served as a member of several other committees and subcommittees.
Bennett will speak at UVSC Nov. 3 at 10 a.m. His speech will be titled "Democracy and Ethics," and will be held in the Liberal Arts Building, room 023. Bennett visits UVSC on a yearly basis to keep in touch with students, faculty and the community he serves. He has been a member of the Senate since 1992 and has served as Vice Chairman of the Joint Economics Committee. He has also been a member and chair of several other committees.
“Democracy Days” is being sponsored by the UVSC President's office, The Center for the Study of Ethics and the Department of History and Political Science through professors Oscar Jesperson and Dennis Farnsworth.
