Utah Regional Ballet Presents Choreography Showcase


The Utah Regional Ballet (URB) will hold its annual choreography showcase under the direction of URB artistic director, Jacqueline Colledge, September 28 and 29 at 7:30 p.m. in the Ragan Theater.   

Every year talented choreographers come together for a three-week residency with the Utah Regional Ballet Company, UVSC’s in-residency performing company since 1995.  This year’s performance will feature works independently choreographed by Nichole Ortega, full-time faculty in UVSC’s dance department, Wilson Dominguez, former professional dancer and dance major at UVSC 07, Robert Kelly, artistic director of Santa Cruz Ballet, Calif. and Angela Banchero-Kelleher, formerly with Repertory Dance Theater and presently full-time faculty in UVSC’s Department of Dance.

“The choreography showcase is always a favorite among students each year,” Colledge said.  “There are no limits on the choreography of the pieces, modern, contemporary or classic.  There is always something to enjoy.”

The showcase will also feature a special guest performance by UVSC’s Contemporary Dance Ensemble, a group new to UVSC this year.  The group is made up of 12 student members and provides pre-professional level experience in modern dance.

“These performances are vital to students’ education because in the current field of professional dance, dancers must have knowledge of both contemporary and classic movement,” Colledge said   “Each of the choreographers brings their unique artistic approach to this concert.  I’m always excited to see the creative works of such talented choreographers.”
