UVSC to Host Conference on Intelligent Design
The 11th annual Religion and the Humanities Conference will be held Friday, Dec. 1 at Utah Valley State College. The title of this year’s conference is “Intelligent Design: Toward an Intelligent Discussion.”
Intelligent design challenges traditional evolutionary biology by claiming that some phenomena are best explained by an intelligent creative process. The sponsors of the conference selected speakers who represent a variety of perspectives regarding intelligent design.
“Each speaker is a nationally renowned scholar in this area,” said Brian Birch, director of Religious Studies at UVSC. “We look forward to a rich discussion among the particular perspectives each scholar will bring to the issue.”
The conference is designed to bring scholars and the community together for a relevant and stimulating discussion on important topics. Those interested in hearing different perspectives on the relationship between science and religion would benefit from attending.
The conference will begin at 9 a.m. in room 206 a&b in the Student Center. The last lecture will end at 4 p.m. at UVSC. The conference will continue in the Gore Auditorium at Westminster College from 7-9 p.m. The conference is hosted by the UVSC Religious Studies Program, the School of Science and Health, the Department of Philosophy and Humanities and Westminster College.
