Congressman Cannon to Speak at UVSC
“Politics, Democracy and Ethics” will be the topic of Republican Rep. Chris Cannon’s speech when he visits Utah Valley State College Nov. 2. He will be speaking in room 025 of the Liberal Arts Building at 10 a.m., with a reception following his speech at 11:30 a.m. in room 109 of the same building.
As part of the UVSC President’s Federal Outreach Program, the College hopes to have Utah’s two senators and at least two congressmen speak on campus every year.
“We try to ensure that the students and faculty of UVSC as well as the community are in touch with our U.S. senators and congressmen,” said Elaine Englehardt, distinguished professor of ethics at UVSC and UVSC’s Federal legislative liaison. “It’s important that the community can voice concerns to their representatives and get an immediate response and accurate explanation.”
Cannon represents Utah’s 3rd District, which includes UVSC. He and his family currently reside in Mapleton.
The event is free and open to the public, and parking is available in the Student Center parking lot. The congressman’s visit is hosted by Professor Oscar Jesperson of the History Department, the Center for the Study of Ethics and the Office of the President.
