Outback Steakhouse Hosts Lunch to Benefit UVSC Scholarship

Put another “Chicken on the Barbie:” Outback Steakhouse in Orem is hosting a second benefit luncheon for Utah Valley State College Oct. 26 at 12 p.m., this time for the Connie Reynolds Memorial Dance Scholarship Fund. As with the first luncheon in July, 100 percent of the proceeds go to the scholarship fund, and all tickets purchased by UVSC faculty, staff, students, alumni and advisory boards will be eligible for the Fulton Challenge, where any individual gift donated to UVSC of up to $1,000 will be matched by the Fultons.

Connie Reynolds began teaching in the Physical Education and Health department at UVSC, eventually serving as chair of the department for a number of years. In 2004, Reynolds passed away unexpectedly. Associate Dean in the School of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences Kathie Debenham, a colleague and friend of Reynolds, began the Connie Reynolds Memorial Scholarship Fund to honor and respect the contribution Reynolds made to UVSC.

“Connie touched many people on this campus,” Debenham said. “I thought there had to be some way to remember and recognize someone who provided the foundation for what so many students now enjoy. I hope this scholarship will keep the presence and energy she brought to campus alive, especially in the dance department.”

To kick off the scholarship, Reynolds’ husband and children have already donated $5,000. In addition, a number of faculty members from the dance department have committed payroll deductions to support the scholarship.

In July, Outback Steakhouse hosted a luncheon for The Donner-Galbraith Scholarship. Manager Jeff Weissgerber and several Outback employees have once again generously offered to donate food and service for the lunch. The luncheon and other events brought in more than $5,000, and with the Fulton match, the Donner-Galbraith scholarship will be endowed by January. The School of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences hopes for a similar outcome with the Connie Reynolds Memorial Dance Scholarship.

Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at Campus Connection, (801) 863-8797. For more information on the Connie Reynolds Memorial Dance Scholarship, including how to make a donation, contact the School of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences at (801) 863-6246.
