UVSC Foundation Presents Distinguished Faculty Award
The first annual UVSC Foundation Distinguished Faculty award will be presented to James G. Harris, professor of biology, October 25 at 7 p.m. in the Sorensen Student Center. After the award, Harris will be speaking on his research in advanced plant studies.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the UVSC Foundation, a group of volunteers that support and promote UVSC in the community. The Foundation is a private, nonprofit corporation that receives and administers private contributions on behalf of UVSC.
“UVSC has a very accomplished faculty who seldom get adequate recognition for their work,” said Ian Wilson, executive director of the Foundation. “This award was created to promote the visibility of UVSC’s distinguished faculty while demonstrating the benefits of contributions from the UVSC Foundation.”
Harris is a leading scholar in the field of advanced plant studies and taxonomy. His work on the UVSC virtual herbarium has been funded by the National Science Foundation. He has helped set the standard for digital herbarium images. Harris served for several years as dean of the School of Science and Health before choosing to return to the classroom where he hopes to have a great impact on UVSC students.
This event is free and open to the public.
