Kurt Bestor Christmas Returns to UVSC
Renowned musician and Orem native Kurt Bestor will perform his festive traditional holiday program at UVSC November 27 at 7 p.m. in the McKay Events Center. This will be Bestor’s second annual holiday performance at UVSC.
A great Monday night family event, “A Kurt Bestor Christmas: A Celebration of Life” will include Bestor’s original arrangements of Christmas favorites as well as a piece composed for local cancer survivors. Featuring as many a 45 other musicians on stage, Bestor’s concerts are major productions, but his warm storytelling and humor create an intimate rapport with his audience.
Best known for his innovative and beautiful holiday carols, the Utah-based composer and performer launched his career writing music for television and movies. Bestor’s credits include more than 30 film scores and 40 themes for national TV programs and commercials. Bestor’s music has introduced “Good Morning America,” “NFL Monday Night Football” and “ABC’s Sunday Night Movie.” He was also given the Outstanding Film Score Award at the New York Film and Television Festival for his music for PBS’s “A More Perfect Union.” Bestor received an Emmy for his collaboration on the original music for ABC’s coverage of the 1988 Winter Olympics.
“Last year Kurt put on an excellent family show,” said Barbara Hammond, assistant
dean for external relations for the School of Humanities, Arts & Social Sciences at UVSC. “Kurt is an exceptional composer, pianist and performer and does an excellent job drawing the audience into his concert performances.”
Repeating as sponsor this year is the Central Utah Cancer Center. Kurt will dedicate an original composition to the survivors in the audience. Presented by the School of Humanities, Arts & Social Sciences at UVSC, “A Kurt Bestor Christmas: A Celebration of Life” is also a benefit concert for scholarships at UVSC. Tickets are starting at $10, and a family ticket available for $40 for six immediate family members, with additional tickets available for immediate family members at $5 each.
