UVSC Provides Sub-for-Santa for Needy Families
The Utah Valley State College Center for Service and Learning will host their annual Sub-for-Santa drive, assisting UVSC students, faculty and staff who need help brining Christmas to their families.
“Usually we try to help about 100 families in the UVSC community,” said Alexis Palmer, director of the Center for Service and Learning. “We are still looking for families who might need help this Christmas.”
The Center for Service and Learning will accept applications for families and sponsors until Nov. 17. Qualified families must include a UVSC student (taking six or more credits), faculty or staff and a child age 16 or younger.
Sponsors are encouraged to provide a toy, book and two items of clothing for each child. The Orem K-Mart (475 North State Street) will give sponsors 10 percent off of all purchases for UVSC Sub-for-Santa families Dec. 2 from 6 – 8 a.m., following which the Orem Institute of Religion will host a breakfast for Sub-for-Santa volunteers at 8 a.m. to wrap the gifts.
In conjunction with the Orem Institute of Religion, the Center for Service and Learning will also host a food drive Nov. 20 – Dec. 1. Food can be dropped off in the Center for Service and Learning office (Sorensen Center, room 101) or in designated boxes across campus. All food will go to the sponsored families.
To nominate a family or volunteer to sponsor a family, call (801) 863-8767, e-mail volunteer@uvsc.edu or go to www.uvsc.edu/volunteer.
