UVSC Theatre Department Presents “Nunsense”

Starting Oct. 26, the word “sister” will take on a new meaning in the Ragan Theater at Utah Valley State College. “Nunsense,” a comedic musical featuring five of the most outrageous Catholic“sisters” ever dreamed up, will play Oct. 26-Nov. 4 at 7:30 p.m.

“Nunsense” tells the story of the “Little Sisters of Hoboken” who, after a terrible cooking accident involving botulism in which almost all the nuns are killed, put on a musical revue show in order to pay for the burial of the last four sisters.

The Theatre Department selected Scott Wells to guest direct the musical. Wells has experience with musical comedies such as “Nunsense,” having previously directed “Nunsense II,” as well as having once been a Catholic himself.

“The humor is generally universal,” said Wells. “People laugh just thinking about singing and dancing nuns. But anyone who’s had experience with Catholic schools or the Catholic Church will get a real kick out of it.”

The cast is comprised of UVSC theatre students, including Laura Garner, grandmother of four, who plays The Reverend Mother, Kristen Douglas as Sister Robert Anne, Kiki Thompson as Sister Hubert, Jana Grass as Sister Amnesia and Jyllian Petrie as Sister Leo. From tap and ballet dancing to even circus performing, each actress brings her own personality and experience into her character, making this two-hour musical a performance everyone will enjoy.

The show will run Thursday through Saturday the first week, and Wednesday through Saturday the second week. Tickets are $6 for UVSC students, $8 for other students, UVSC faculty and seniors and $10 for general admission. They can be purchased at Campus Connection, (801) 863-8797, or at the door. Children under six will not be admitted.
