UVSC Names New Associate Vice President for Marketing & Communications

The UVSC office of College Marketing & Communications welcomes Chris Taylor of St. George, Utah as their new Associate Vice President. Taylor comes to UVSC after having served as Dixie State College’s Director of College Public Relations for the past two years. He replaces Derek Hall, who recently left the College after 18 years to fill a similar position in Jacksonville, Fla.

“UVSC is fortunate to recruit a communications professional like Chris Taylor,” said Val Hale, vice president for advancement and marketing. “He brings an abundance of excitement, energy and creativity to the job. I believe the media, the public and the College community will enjoy getting to know him as UVSC’s spokesperson. Chris will play a critical role at UVSC transitions toward university status in the next few years.”

Taylor is a Utah native and actually attended UVSC for one year before transferring. After graduating from BYU with a bachelor’s degree in communication, emphasis in public relations, Taylor went on to earn a master’s degree of social science in public administration at Utah State University. He first joined Dixie as Assistant Director of Public Relations & Publications in 2001 before being promoted as Director in 2004. Taylor has significant experience in media relations, publications and marketing for higher education.  He has also had the opportunity to teach communication courses as an instructor for Dixie and also supervised the student newspaper for two years.

“It is an honor and a pleasure to be returning to a place that, in essence, gave me my educational start,” Taylor said. “I was awarded my first college scholarship at UVSC and the institution has always held a special place in my heart.”

Taylor has also been heavily involved in community-oriented endeavors while in St. George, having served the past five years on the Dixie Rotary Bowl Planning Committee and the past two years as a Dixie Sunshiner, an ambassador group for the St. George Area Chamber of Commerce.

Over the course of his career, Taylor has been awarded a Gold Paragon Award, six Gold Medallion of Excellence Awards and a Silver Medallion of Achievement Award by the National Council for

Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR). He has been awarded the “Spirit of Dixie Award” on two occasions by the ASDSC Student Council, was named Employee of the Semester in 2002 by the Dixie State College Staff Association, and has been a finalist for the “Distinguished Staff Service” Rebel Award on three occasions, winning the award in 2006.

Taylor will begin working in October. “UVSC’s stock is sky high right now – it has been for some time – and it’s only going to climb,” Taylor said. “There are a lot of exciting prospects on the horizon. UVSC is a tremendous institution of higher education with a very bright future. I’m proud to be part of that again.”
